In 1920, the formerly named Chrysler Motors teamed up with three ex-Studebaker engineers to design a revolutionary new car. Starting then, the Chrysler brand came to life as the men defined the brand as an affordable, luxurious vehicle automaker known for innovative, top-flight engineering. The records show that they did just that.
The first Chrysler model was debuted in 1924, the Chrysler Six, which was priced at $1,565 and featured a powerful, high-compression six-cylinder engine and the first four-wheel hydraulic brakes. This was big news for a new passenger car. Within a decade, Chrysler Motors was known as Detroit’s “engineering company” and continued to bring high-tech, well-equipped machines to the marketplace.
In 1951, the V8 engine was released. It eventually led to the HEMI® engine which provided better combustion, higher compression and lower heat loss. The brand continued to produce new cars, keeping consumer demands and desires in mind. In the 1960s, fins started to disappear and larger cars took the spotlight. That’s when the 1963 Chrysler 300-J came out, featuring leather interiors, heavy-duty equipment and an ideal mix of style and speed.
The 1984 minivan, the 1988 Portofino and the 2005 300C models each caught a piece of the limelight and the brand continued to take up a considerable portion of the roadway. The Chrysler brand continues on its foundation to create vehicles that are innovative and designed with a purpose. There’s no denying that the alliance with the FIAT group keeps that promise going strong.
