Many RAM HD trucks available at Mike Toler Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM are equipped with the Vehicle System Interface Module (VSIM) feature. The VSIM makes it easier to upfit your vehicle. Here’s how it works!

What is the VSIM?

The Vehicle System Interface Module (VSIM) is a small electronic module that lets you use hardwired commands to interface with specific features and functions of your vehicle. The VSIM in your RAM HD truck contains over 50 circuits with input and output signals that you can use to turn on different functions. Some of these include:

  • Hazard indicators and horns
  • Gear positions
  • Plow and PTO controls
  • Light bars and wig-wags
  • Parking brakes

What is the VSIM Used for?

Let’s say you want to upfit your new RAM HD truck. Adding a towing system, refrigeration, trailer brakes, lights and sirens, or other items that require in-cab control can be complicated, requiring an interface between the systems and the truck. The VSIM streamlines the upfitting process by giving you a central point for the necessary wiring, inputs, and switchgear.

How Do You Access the VSIM?

On RAM HD trucks made after 2019, the VSIM is located in the cockpit underneath the steering column. The module also comes with a wiring kit that includes four color-coded wiring harnesses. These harnesses can interface with the different circuits and functions for your upfitting convenience. Bear in mind that it must be factory-installed and is not available as an aftermarket option.
